Does my family dentist have to schedule my appointment?

We always welcome and appreciate referrals from dentists. In fact, most of the dentists in town send their kids to us! However, a referral isn’t necessary to schedule an appointment for you or your child. You can request an appointment right here online or by calling our office at (702) 737-5500. Speaking of dentists, we do recommend that you continue to see your general dentist at least once every six months throughout your orthodontic treatment.

Can a child start orthodontic treatment if they still have primary teeth?

Yes. Sometimes, if a child has a bite disorder that’s skeletal in nature, intervening while they’re still growing and have baby teeth will help them avoid more extensive treatment, extractions or surgery later in life. That’s why it’s recommended that kids have their first orthodontic evaluation at age seven.

Will I need to have teeth pulled before I can start orthodontic treatment?

While every case is unique, we use high-tech computerized treatment planning that lets us move teeth more predictably and avoid pulling teeth. In fact, we’re known for our ability to design custom smiles without extractions!

How long does each appointment last?

When we place your braces, it can take an hour or so. However, the rest of your appointments will typically only take about 20 to 30 minutes. Thanks to our technology-led approach, our patients spend a lot less time in the orthodontist’s chair.

Why are retainers so important?

Both our Henderson, NV Invisalign and braces patients will need to wear a retainer when they complete treatment. The teeth have a natural tendency to shift back to their old places when we take away the continuous, steady forces that were applied by the appliance. Wearing a retainer is the only way to maintain your results and ensure your teeth lock in their new positions. After a while, you’ll only have to wear your retainer at night.

Why should I visit an orthodontist?

Orthodontists receive two or three more years of specialty training after dental school. This allows them to develop the knowledge necessary to prevent, diagnose and treat malocclusions, or irregularities in the teeth and jaws. Since orthodontic treatment can permanently change your teeth and facial structure, it’s essential to see a certified specialist who has the expertise to get results safely.

What’s the best age to visit an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends kids see an orthodontist by the age of seven. Many times, they won’t need treatment and we’ll wait until they have their permanent teeth. However, if we do spot red flags, early treatment lets us guide their jaw and facial growth to bring about the most stable, dramatic results. It can save the child from having more invasive, expensive and lengthy treatment in their teen or adult years.

What happens at my first visit?

At your first visit, we’ll show you around the office and then we’ll take diagnostic records, including 3D scans and photos. Dr. Okuda or Dr. Noorda will examine your mouth and then using their findings, along with the diagnostic records, to develop an accurate diagnosis. They’ll present you with your treatment choices and then you’ll go over the cost of treatment, insurance, payment options and what to expect.

How are emergency appointments handled?

A true orthodontic emergency is extremely rare. However, if something is bothering you or you’re experiencing discomfort, call our office at (702) 737-5500 and we’ll get you in as soon as possible. If it’s after hours, call the office and leave a message on our answering service. Someone will call you back shortly.

What are the benefits of orthodontic treatment?

There are a number of benefits of orthodontic treatment:

  • Straight teeth are easier to clean, reducing your risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
  • Properly aligned teeth are less susceptible to uneven wear and erosion of enamel.
  • A healthy bite makes it easier to speak, chew and breathe.
  • Aligning the jaws can help alleviate temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, teeth grinding, headaches and migraines.
  • By creating ideal spacing between teeth, it reduces jawbone loss, which, in turn, helps prevent pain and tooth loss.
  • We can enhance your appearance and create facial symmetry.
  • Having a smile you love boosts your confidence and self-esteem!
